History

1963

Recognizing the lack of support for this specialized business model, a group of savvy business owners come together to form the Multiple Association Management Institute (MAMI).

1996

As the organization hits the global market, it becomes the International Association of Association Management Companies (IAAMC), providing services on a larger scale (which would eventually include Canada, Europe and Asia).

2006

The organization changes its name from IAAMC to the AMC Institute (AMCI), assuming the AMC marketing responsibilities to more clearly brand the AMC concept.

Today

AMC Institute represents more than 180 AMC members throughout the US, Canada, Europe and Asia, promoting service excellence among association management companies and striving to raise awareness of a burgeoning AMC industry.

1976

As the organization continues to grow, it undergoes its first name change to Institute of Association Management Companies (IAMC).

2002

The organization starts to provide provisional, two-year memberships to AMCs with only one client, to give them a taste of the industry and the many benefits of belonging to the organization.

2007

AMC Institute, ASAE & The Center for Association Leadership agree to support a single AMC accreditation program in order to provide clearer directions to associations interested in being managed.
